Screen Printing

All types of machinery, screens, inks, and consumables for customisation using screen printing. If you are new to screen printing, here we explain the basic principles of this technique.

Screen Printing

Screen printing is a printing technique that involves preparing a screen or frame with a stretched fabric on which a design is transferred through a process of screen exposure with a varnish.

After the screen exposure, the varnish has reproduced the design on the fabric, allowing it to be used as a stencil, with open fabric pores for the ink to pass through and others blocked. The exposed screen is then placed on the substrate to be printed, and a squeegee is used to push the ink through the screen, depositing it onto the substrate.

TEXTILE PRINTING WITH SCREEN PRINTING

These are the essential steps of textile printing using screen printing:

  1. Print the design in black on a film positive.
  2. Select a screen of the appropriate size and the correct fabric mesh.
  3. Apply photo-reactive emulsion onto the screen mesh.
  4. Place the film positive on the screen and perform the exposure of the screen.
  5. Wash the screen to remove the emulsion in the areas not exposed to light, which correspond to the design.
  6. With the help of a press or carousel, place the screen on the substrate to be printed and use the squeegee to spread the ink across the screen and force it through the screen.
  7. Perform the curing or drying of the ink using a heat press or flash dryer.

This is a repetitive technique with an initial fixed cost for screen preparation, making it suitable for medium to large runs of items with the same design.
